  • Flyways of the year 2001 - 2003: Prinzesschen (S 16906)
  • Flyways of the year 2000: K_73
  • Flyways of the year 1999: Penelope K_79, K_82
  • Each animation shows the migration flyways of individuals of the White Stork Ciconia ciconia. The telemetric data accrue from a project directed by the Max-Planck Research Institute for Ornithology, Vogelwarte Radolfzell in collaboration with the regional authorities for environment of Sachsen-Anhalt (Landesamt für Umweltschutz) - StVSW Storchenhof Loburg. The project initiated in 1991 to investigate migration of the White Stork in Germany, Poland and Russia with the help of satellite telemetry. The data have been received with the friendly support of Michael Kaatz, freelancer of the Vogelwarte Radolfzell and complimentary assistant of the Storchenhof in Loburg, Sachsen-Anhalt.

The PhD-Project by Birgit Gerkmann (Museum Koenig Bonn, 2002-2006) based on these telemetry data and has now been published:

Weißstorch-Satellitentelemetrie The map shows some of the so far collected satellite telemetry data, derived from ca. 64000 data records. The data give information about the migration routes and staging areas of the storks. The map was generated by Birgit Gerkmann in the context of a PhD-Project (see above).
