Madagascar bee-eater Guêpier de Madagascar Abejaruco Malgache Madagaskarspint
Migration: partial

Verbreitungskarte von Merops superciliosus Madagascar Bee-eaters have long been held to migrate between Madagascar and Africa, but on present evidence that may not be so. They occur year-round in Madagascar and in Somalia, and are found erratically all year on the Kenya coast, mainly in August and September. On Zanzibar they occur principally in May-November, on Pemba in June-March, at Dar es Salaam in March-August, at Mikindani in July-August, in Tsavo in February- March, inland in Kenya and Tanzania in May-September, and in east Zaire in April-August. Passage migrants pass through Malawi and Zambia for six weeks in August-October. Most records in Transvaal are in October- April. In autumn Blue-tailed Bee-eaters move from north into south India and Sri Lanka. Similarly, southeast Asian birds withdraw wholly from the northern regions. They winter from the central Burmese plains, lower Irrawaddy, north Tenasserim and Andaman Islands south to Nicobar Islands, peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra, Java and the Lesser Sundas east to Timor; probably some winter also in Sulawesi and the Philippines.   (Fry CH, Fry K, Harris A, 1992)
