Migrates S and W, some reaching North Slope and Pacific coast at Alaska, others (mainly juveniles) moving into
Chikch Sea, then moving S. Winters from British Columbia to Baja California, with birds arriving in Oct; 1 st-
year birds moves further S. Numbers detected along Pacific coast, however, are hardly sufficient to account for
the large numbers which may breed in Arctic Canada. Species very rare in the Maritime Provinces and NE USA,
being accidental in most states. Presumably still overlooked in many areas. (del Hoyo J, Elliott A,
