Resident in C & S of range. Canadian populations migratory, as indeed are many of those breeding N of
California; Oklahoma and Georgia; autumn migration begins towards end Aug and lasts to late Oct or Nov, with
peak in Sept; migrates by day, in sometimes large flocks, low over ground. Winter concentrations in USA from
SW states through Texas to Florida; auratus group winters S to N Mexico (Sonora E to Tamaulipas),
where present Oct-Mar. N populations arrive back on breeding grounds from early Mar to May.
