Across the northern tropics this roller is resident in soudanian savannas. Further north it is mainly a summer wet- season visitor to the Sahelian zone, above about 15 N; and to the Guinean savannas in the south mainly a winter dry-season visitor. It visits Gambia in September-July, north Ivory Coast from late November to early April, and Uganda in October-May. Pronounced passage occurs on the east shore of Lake Albert in October-November and in Gambia in January-March and July-August.   (Fry CH, Fry K, Harris A, 1992)
