Migratory; almost entire population of USA and Canada winters down Pacific coast. Migration starts in Sept,
with movements towards saltwater locations in W; gatherings of several thousand not uncommon at staging
posts. Migration nocturnal over land, but partly diurnal along coast. Vagrant to Aleutian Is and Atlantic and Gulf
coasts, as far as Tampa Bay, Florida. Mexican populations presumably fairly sedentary, with some local
